Existing Patterns Analysis

These are patterns, orders, and functional analyisis' of the current Smith House. This process allows one to understand Richard Meier's design concept and allow one to extend upon it.
The Addition
Narrative
The Smith House has recently sold to its new owner, Marie Fernandez. Marie is a marine biologist and her husband Ed is an oceanographer, and they live with their two daughters and Ed’s mother. They want to add an addition to the house that has a lot of outdoor space and a large family room to host big events. Marie also requested a green house to be built for her use. They also want a gym and a new master bedroom. They bought this house because it is unique and wish to preserve the uniqueness, so they do not want any part of the current structure changed.
Meta idea: Wind and air. reflective of the natural surroundings.

Final Design

I based this design off of the wind and air, which compliments the surrounding water and cliffs . The large gray structures represent the wind, as a clam breeze on one side and as a wild bluster on the other. The third side is left empty to represent still wind. the entire addition features vast spaces to let wind and air pass freely through, giving the addition an "airy" feel. Below shows the final layout, which extrudes the circulation and the structure to allow the addition to fit into the Smith House without seeming like an extension of Meier.
